The broth is quite mild and you really should try to eat something.

[She's just about positive he hasn't had anything at all to eat today.]

[She's right. And he's not one to argue right now.]

[And yet he hasn't moved. With a fond smile she runs her hand through his hair again.]

You'll have to let me up so I can get it for you.

That's not the way to get me up. [It's almost a groan, but he rolls off of her.]

You won't have to go too far, I promise.

[It's hardly even a foot of space, really, but even so she feels for him for having to move at all. Poor sick Commander.

She's careful as she helps him settle back, propping a pillow behind his head before she slips out of the bed.]

[He wants her back the moment she leaves.]

There's something you and Fenris have in common. You both thank me for doing things any decent person would do.

[It's really quite sad, in a way. She'd like to think there would be more people out there who help those who need help, but if it comes down to her and her alone there really isn't much she can do about it.

When she retrieves the broth she finds the container is still nice and warm, the perfect temperature to be soothing and still easy to eat. After removing the top, she comes back to him and holds the bowl out.]

Just try a sip to start and we'll go from there.

[His brow furrows as he reaches for the container, but the act of lifting his arms makes his hands tremble. Down they go before even touching her fingers.]

If I can get that far.

[Someone's looking frustrated.]

[She moves a little closer to him, one hand reaching out to cup his cheek and turn his face towards her.]

I'm here to help you, Cullen, so just relax and let me do that. Here.

[She brings the bowl up to his mouth herself, setting the rim of it against his lower lip and tipping it just enough that all Cullen will have to do is bow his head a little.]

[He leans into her touch before taking a small sip. It's warm and feels good against his tongue, but that's about it. He's too busy not looking at her and trying to not feel as weak as his body is.]

[True to her word, she only lets him have one sip before she's taking the bowl away and setting it aside.]

We'll see how that settles in your stomach and try for another sip in a few minutes.

[In the meantime, he settles back down against the pillows. After pushing his unruly hair back, he sets his hand down on the bed, palm up.

He'd really just like to hold on to her.]

[She settles down beside him, slipping her hand into his as she looks him over.]

I wish you didn't hate me seeing you this way so much. I don't think less of you in any way, Cullen.

[Maybe that's part of it. He can't understand what she sees in him.]

That's part of what makes you so remarkable.

[He probably means that as a compliment, but it just makes her sigh.]

It's not remarkable to have sympathy and yet everyone I meet seems to think it is. Are humans always so horrible to each other?

[His fingers squeeze her hand.]

We're lucky to have you.

[dawnwillcome]

[She squeezes his hand back, reaching with her other hand to stroke his hair. It seems to calm him, so she sees no reason to not do it whenever she has the opportunity.]

I only wish I could do more.

[It does calm him. He can't imagine any better feeling than her slender fingers in his hair, and his eyes close once again.]

You do more than enough. Today alone...

[It's too bad that he likes it so much, because she's stopping to press her finger to his lips to stop him from continuing.]

Stop. I don't want you to thank me for this, Cullen. If my being here helps you I'm glad and I'm more than happy to be here any time you need me, but you've got to stop acting like Andraste sent me to feed you soup.

[If he felt better, he might crack a joke. But as it is, he just moves her hand so that it's resting against his cheek.]

[That seems to be the right reply in any case, because it has her smiling softly and leaning in to kiss his forehead.]

[He sighs at the touch, arms reaching out to pull her near.]

[dawnwillcome]

[She had been trying to give him space just in case he reacted badly to the broth, but how can she keep that up when he's reaching for her like that? She lets him pull her in, settling in beside him comfortably.]

You must be feeling better.

With you here. [He nestles his face against her, arm loosely draped over her. She's the perfect temperature.]

[dawnwillcome]

[She laughs softly, giving him a gentle tug so he's more securely against her. She wouldn't have ever expected this side of Cullen, affectionate to the point of nearly smothering, but in a way she certainly doesn't mind.]

I'll stay until you've fallen asleep, then. After you have a bit more to eat.
