[When she spots him she smiles brightly at him, as if she hadn't just seen him the day before, and she slides his drink over to him once he's seated.]

Believe me, I know I'm just about the luckiest woman ever, lethallin.

What have you got there?

[He smalls it, force of habit, and takes a sip. Ah, that would do.

He hands over the box. Inside was an off-white tooth, roughly two inches long and about as thick as her little finger.]

Here, open it. It's a gift I've made for you. It's nothing that will send you through time but...it will do. You see, I had to find a focus, and as it turns out, there is a canid species here, in a sense. The same symbolism, and as far as magic is concerned, intent is the driving force. At least, that was what they taught in the Circle in Quarinus...

[He stops himself, and clears his throat.]

It's a talisman, of sorts. When you're in danger, it will react, and cause your attacker to be wracked with fear. A non-lethal deterrent, one to give you the advantage of a few moments of safety when you need it.

[It's cute when he gets all caught up in magical theory, though, so Jove only gives him and indulgent smile. You nerd out all you want to, bro. No judgement.]

Wracked with fear? You don't think that's a little extreme?

[Which isn't to say anyone attempting to attack her in her sleep wouldn't entirely deserve it, but he's certainly gone above and beyond her expectations with this. Still, when she opens the box and finds the tooth, she can't help appreciating the work he's put into it.]

[Dorian waves a hand dismissively.]

If anyone attacks you, they are fortunate that the worst they have to worry about is shitting in their pants.

[He says it lightly, but there's almost an edge to the words, one that makes it clear that he's not joking- inflicting terror on someone is the LEAST he could do.]

I'm glad you like it, Jove. It will do me good to know you're safe.

[Lifting the tooth out of the box, she turns it over in her hands and shoots him a bit of a wry grin.]

I may have overreacted. A man on my ship took an interest in me after hinting there might be some dark purpose behind bringing so many elves in at one time. After he went to the trouble to seek me out and surprise me from behind, so it didn't sit well. I felt something like a halla with a wolf snapping at my heels.

Now, though, it seems he's just curious. I can't say I enjoy the attention, but I don't think he's likely to try to murder me in my sleep any longer.

Well, that is good news, I suppose. Not that I doubt that you're capable- there are few other mages I would want by my side in a fight.

[He lifts his glass to her and takes a drink.]

I tend to think less chances of assassination attempts are a good thing, personally. I do quite like living.

Well, if you'd like, I could always give you a bit of a spook, just to keep you on your toes. I'm told I'm rather good with that.

[He chuckles.]

[She grins at him, drawing a leather cord out from under her shirt. There's already a wooden ring connected to it, but as she undoes the knot holding it together it's clear she intends to combine the two on the same necklace.]

Scaring people, or keeping them on their toes?
